Where to Watch Shia LaBeouf Film Transformers 3

Transformers-1It’s summer in Chicago. That means heat, humidity, construction and hot stars. This summer, it means Shia LaBeouf and his Transformers 3 co-stars will be in town.

Locals like to complain when Hollywood comes to Chicago, but secretly we love everything about it. We love the buzz about knowing there are stars in town. We love catching a glimpse of some star coming out of his semi-truck trailer. We love straining our necks from behind the barricades in an attampt to see some action. And we love watching the films when they arrive in theaters and pointing out to anyone who will listen which scenes we watched being filmed and which Chicago locations we recognize.

So the prospect of Shia LaBeouf and crew coming to town has Chicago all atwitter. Most of the planned filming will take place downtown and in the Loop, particularly the area around Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River.

According to the Chicago Tribune, here’s where they’ll be, when they’ll be there and what you need to know if you still want to get around Chicago:


Whether you want to get a glimpse of the “Transformers 3” shoot or avoid those areas (and the traffic) at all costs, you’ll want to check out the filming schedule below:

A. 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: LaSalle Street (Jackson Boulevard to Randolph Street) will be closed.

B. 8 p.m. July 16 to 5 a.m. July 19: Michigan Avenue (Wacker Drive to Ohio and Ontario streets) will be closed. The noisiest stunts and effects (gunfire, explosions) take place July 17 and 18 after 8 a.m. The production company will use the Tribune Tower’s parking lot and balconies during these days.

C. 7 to 10 a.m. July 17 and 18: Due to skydivers in the area, there will be periodic traffic control on Hubbard Street between Clark and State streets, Kinzie Street between Clark and State, Dearborn Street between Wacker and Hubbard, State Street between Wacker and Hubbard, and Wabash Avenue between Wacker and Kinzie.

D. 9 p.m. July 18 to 5 a.m. July 22: Upper Wacker Drive (Michigan to Wabash) will be closed. Filming takes place at Hotel 71 July 19-21.

E. July 24-27, July 31, Aug. 1: Filming at 35 E. Wacker Drive (the old Jewelers’ Building) will close portions of Wabash and Wacker.

F. July 27: Filming at Trump Tower will close nearby streets periodically.
