As I head out on a trip this week, one of the first things I thought about when I began to pack was what I’m going to read while I’m gone. Whether while sitting in the terminal waiting for a flight, on the plane itself, or while relaxing on vacation, I love escaping into a great book. When I was a kid, my parents loved taking my brother and I to the lake. Along with swimming, tubing and playing frisbee, I can remember spending hours sitting on our boat or in the shade by our picnic table reading whatever latest book had caught my eye. Back then I was reading paperbacks and hardcovers - now there are all kinds of options to read books digitally too.
These days for summer travel reading, my favorite kinds of books tend to be either lighthearted romances where the girl eventually gets the guy of her dreams - or thrillers that draw you in and keep you on edge until the very end. Of course either way I always tend to hit the most exciting part right as my flight is called or we arrive at our destination, but that just means I’m looking forward to getting back into the story as soon as I can.
On this particular trip, I’m thrilled to have the chance to try out the first book from a locally-born author - although Dana Precious doesn’t live in West Michigan anymore, she grew up in North Muskegon and her novel, entitled Born Under a Lucky Moon draws heavily on her past there. It’s always fun to read a book which includes landmarks and locations that you recognize, and I’m looking forward to seeing which ones I can pick out of this book since I also lived in the Muskegon area for some time. I was recently able to read the first couple of chapters online, and am already hooked, so I can’t wait to read the rest. I’ll be posting a book review over at Just a mom’s take on things… next week, so be sure to stop by to see what I thought of it! [UPDATE: See full review here!]
What are your favorite summer travel reads?
I was sent a copy of Born Under a Lucky Moon to read and review - all opinions here are 100% my own.
