Teaching Children a Lesson on Travel

classRecently, I had the opportunity to teach my Year 3 students of Ajman Academy all about planning and taking a trip.

In our school, we follow the PYP model of education, where we break our year up into six blocks, each one focusing on a transdisciplinary theme and central idea. Within each idea, there are three lines of inquiry the teacher will try to help the children understand, while allowing them to guide their own learning through questions, research and thinking.

For our last unit, the students were given the theme of 'where we are in place and time' with the Central Idea being 'organising a trip requires planning and working together.'

don-draper-photo-courtesy-amcSpoiler Alert: If you are a fan of Mad Men and have yet to see Episode 6 of Season 6, titled “For Immediate Release,” you may want to hold off on reading the following.

Finally showing the better part of valor and a sense of morality we rarely glimpse in him, Don Draper has kicked Jaguar to the curb. Roger Sterling comes to the rescue with a lead on a car account. The big twist? Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce have teamed up with Cutler Gleason & Chaough and have landed a new account with Chevrolet. Welcome to Motown.

Don and Peggy are back together and working with Chevy, not unlike Traveling Mom. Judy Antell, myself and Scotty Riess -- editor of She Buys Cars - were recently guests of Chevrolet at the launch party for the newly redesigned 2014 Chevy Impala in New York City.

7 Ways Bermuda Shines for Family Fun

1horseshoeBermuda once had a stuffy image, perhaps a result of its British heritage and obsession with men’s knee high socks. But the island is very family-friendly and perfect for a weekend, or longer, getaway.

1. Bermuda is Easily Accessible
First and foremost, for those of us on the East Coast is its accessibility. Just off the coast of North Carolina, the island is just a two-hour flight from New York City. You can leave in the morning and squeeze pink sand between your toes by lunch.

2. Getting Around Bermuda is Easy
Since visitors can’t rent cars, you can take taxis of the adorable pink buses. There is a cute color-coded system; at pink stops buses go into Hamilton, the main city, and blue, buses go from. An even better way to travel town to town is by public ferry.
