Hope Springs400Inspired by the movie “Hope Springs” and sponsored by Sony, we gathered on December 3rd to talk romantic travel. Our tweeters told stories of 1st loves, vacations past and occasionally veered out of the G-rated category!

Where were you when your significant other first said I love you?

@dianarowe  We'd just rode in to Sturgis for bike week & were walking down Main Street ;-)

@WanderingTastes  College newspaper (romantic, no?)

@Connie Foggles @DebMomof3 That's a sign of real love, you don't remember and it doesn't matter.

@ionmyadventures At a dance after football game. I still hear Sherriff playing "When I'm with you."

How can travel help get the magic back?

@leighbra We need time away from boring realities of being an adult! Let someone else cook & focus on each other!

@petersterri  It's getting away without the kids that helps us! Travel is the only time we do that.

@chaotic_barb  Shared experiences just add to the memories and romance of long term relationships

@ionmyadventures Time alone helps you remember who you are together, not just mom and dad.

Can you find romance at a low end motel as easily as a high end boutique hotel?

@stblissout Not if there is fear of bedbugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@chaotic_barb *Bring quarters for the bed!*

@theejuliette that's more romantic because you both care about saving money

@mommaof4girlies It's what you do, not where you do it

Why is food so important in a relationship? What are your faves?

@IcySupreme  the way to my mans heart

@DianaRowe Lots of conversation & intimacy over food & wine! Favs any restaurant @TheBroadmoor, good wine, prime rib, lobster

@AustinKVS Food is the way to a man's heart still, isn't it? I won mine with brownies. :-D

@ionmyadventures  Food is sexy! Love chocolate, wine, and pasta (gluten free of course, or it's not sexy).

@maryheston Besides food setting the mood - I get pretty grumpy when I'm hungry - and that's just not pretty

What's the least fave holiday gift you ever got or gave? The best?

@rachelferrucci My dh bought me a dress meant for a 20 yr old- I'm not 20 anymore- I'd look like a hoochie- not cool.

@zipporahs My husband bought me a boat - he knows I get seasick. Time to admit he bought it for himself.

@CarissaRogers  have to admit the hubs is great about gift, in fact I have to only 'ask' for a few items, or he'll get them ALL!

@sashacory Least fave: wrong sized clothes Fave: custom picture of my late 1st dog. Made me cry :(

Where would you go to renew your vows?

@ky_1987 Bora Bora or Maui

@OneHotMamaGuide I'd say Sonoma County at a beautiful vineyard! Amazing wine+food+friends+fam.

@familytravel4um We renew our vows every day & more often when we travel - esp love Asia

@ramblingstump Got married @ImprovAsylum on Leap Yr Day- we go back on "real" anniversaries. Wouldn't dream of going elsewhere.

Submit to DeliciousSubmit to DiggSubmit to FacebookSubmit to Google BookmarksSubmit to StumbleuponSubmit to TechnoratiSubmit to TwitterSubmit to LinkedIn
giftWe gathered on November 26th for a chat chock full of gadgetry. We covered our travel gifts we covet. We talked smartphones, cameras, GPS, and dream luggage. We dreamed of chaffeurs and private jets and we had a few laughs.

What's your favorite travel gadget? Why?

@CathyCanton A battery backup charger with multiple adapters.

@ChaCha572 My smart phone can do it all - GPS, road trip music, take photos, and be an alarm!

@CindyRichards My fave travel gadget isn't a travel gadget. It's a power strip.

What is your kids favorite travel gadget? Why?

@mommytravels The dvd/tv in my mini van. I don't know how they could stand the drives otherwise.

@ionmyadventures My daughter just sold her DS after many yrs of fun, now she's into her iphone.

@ihopeudancealot Kids love the portable DVD and travel neck pillow.

What travel gadget could you do without? Why?

@sweepinit The GPS on our dashboard. It doesn't always give us the fastest route.

@monlor Hmm...I'd have to say those crazy neck pillows. My mom loves hers and always wants to loan me hers. They annoy me!

@erodg TRAVEL GADGET I COULD DO WITHOUT? Non neatly-wrapped ear phones? Why has no one solved this problem?

@thienkim I try to travel as light as possible-but for kids, no toys with little pieces.

@kymri Those little sewing kits right, like I'm gonna actually stitch something while traveling...never do at home!

If money was no object what travel gadget would you buy today? Why?

@kymri Annual lounge passes for every airline.

@SueRodman I'd like a personal photographer, then I can have the photos AND not worry about taking them.

@TibsTravel Does a chauffeur to take me to the airport count as a money-no-object travel gadget?

@thegeekwife A fully customized, does everything including talk to you, Crimson Red Volvo with cream colored interior.

@katiesheaddesign A fully loaded Luxury Camper.

What travel gadget do you wish someone would invent? Why?

@cafeyak Some kind of weather gadget - I always need to know what everyone should be wearing.

@adamsommer Airplanes without economy class! Love flying business, hate economy.

@allierose An automated packing device that I can blink and the suitcase is neatly packed!

@travelermom A self cleaning car.

@katiesheaddesignVacation Packers & Unpackers in some form. Disposable Vacation Clothing Thats it!!

@funhippo3 A robot driver so I can chill the whole time.

@judy511 Freeze dried martini.

What gadget do you want to be surprised with this year?

@maryheston Maybe an armband for my SmartPhone - I don't run but I think it would be cool to look like I might.

@ramblingstump As lame as it sounds I want those seat back protectors so the kids don't get their muddy little boots all over my car.

@beautybesties1 A vacation would be a fantastic surprise in itself! I need a getaway!

Submit to DeliciousSubmit to DiggSubmit to FacebookSubmit to Google BookmarksSubmit to StumbleuponSubmit to TechnoratiSubmit to TwitterSubmit to LinkedIn
On November 19th we joined together at our weekly twitter party to chat about Thankful Travel.  Traveling and seeing new places made the top of your list, with mentions of traveling over the holidays. Is it worth the hassle to plan a fall family getaway, or would you rather host host the Thanksgiving holiday yourself? And  TravelingMom Founder Kim Orlando shared her easy leftover turkey soup recipe!

Have you voluntoured? Where? Why?

What are you thankful for? Traveling and seeing new places most likely make the top of your list, but what about traveling over the holidays? Is it worth the hassle to plan a fall family getaway, or would you rather host host the Thanksgiving holiday yourself? (If you do host, make sure to try out TravelingMom Founder Kim Orlando's easy leftover turkey soup recipe!)@ElenaSonnino I was part of the #Bloggers4Haiti group that traveled to Haiti to raise awareness about work of trade not aid programs.

@mom4everandever We did the rebuild Joplin, rebuild from Katrina, many things like that. It's good for kids to see it too.

@nicholemckinnon Hilary Clinton campaign I really wanted her to win- this was 8 years ago in NH.

@MartiJenkins Love Voluntourism, giving back while traveling makes it rewarding. Favorite was in NOLA after Katrina.

What travel gadget are you most thankful for?

@lillikitty123 iPad hands down not a travel gadget per se but couldn't fly with my 2 year old without it it is her little travel luxury!

@TheeJuliette Rear view mirror counts! Love to see baby while driving.

@allierose GPS on my phone!

@mimitravelz GPS. I depend on it when renting a car on vacay.

Share your funniest Thanksgiving travel story.

@a_biro The 1st thanksgiving my husband, then bf, came to my parents house my mom set oven on fire- twice.

@DebMomof3 Got stuck in snow on way to (& frm) inlaws few yrs ago. Had team of Amish horses pull us free the 2nd time!

@dipaolamomma 1 yr dad slipped, dumping mashed potatoes in mom's lap. Her reaction? Toss a handful at him. FAMILY FOOD FIGHT!

@TibsTravel Thanksgiving "funny" travel story: college in @VisitMO Flew home to NJ, parents moved across town, didn't tell me.

@ConnieFoggles I have funny Christmas travel stories, but nothing for Thanksgiving. We don't travel much that day. Boring :(

@MaryHeston Seems like alot of the *funny* stories are only funny years later.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? What food don't you like?

@3GirlsNYC I don't eat meat. I'm a vegan. I eat tofurky but cook a feast for my family! that's torture for me.

@mummadear DESSERT!

@love2lovemykids I forgot about dessert...HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT DESSERT? Love pies...lots of pies...

@DebMomof3 I'm getting very hungry right now... :)

@TibsTravel No-one happy the year my mother added jello with beets in it to the feast. Challenged good manners around the table.

What are your Thanksgiving travel tips?

@MaryHeston Low expectations.

@ramblingstump Do not try to bring a full gravy boat through security. TSA frowns on that.

@CarmelLeeMooney Allow plenty of extra travel time & check the weather forecast before you hit the road.

@kimorlando Leave EARLY Whether flying or driving leave at least 1 hr earlier than u would normally No traffic stress that way.

@SheBuysCars Weds nite before Thanksgiving is a great night for city hotels and top restaurants-most usually not crowded and thankful to see you.

Have you spent Thanksgiving away from home? Where? Why?

@autiglobetrot We go cruising w/ family members/friends -no cooking stress involved.

@dipaolamomma 1st Thanksgiving away from home was in Spain. Spanish friends worked so hard to make it VERY American. SO SPECIAL.

@erodg Most Thanksgivings are away from home! To visit family. Exhausting but rewarding.

Twitter Recap: Holiday Traditions

Submit to DeliciousSubmit to DiggSubmit to FacebookSubmit to Google BookmarksSubmit to StumbleuponSubmit to TechnoratiSubmit to TwitterSubmit to LinkedIn
xmastree
Having kids can mean creating all sorts of new family traditions – perhaps visiting Disneyland for the holidays or planning a family ski trip. For others, it might mean a cozy time at home baking holiday treats or writing letters to Santa Claus. We also celebrated with Sony's newly released DVD Arthur Christmas, which focuses on the importance of holiday traditions. Many times traditions change with children and travel to see family creates new traditions so we devoted our November 5th Monday Night Twitter Party to the idea of Holiday Traditions and how they change.

What's the farthest you've traveled for the holidays? Worth it? Why?

@daddymojo Since having children we pledged not to travel during holidays, it's too wacky.

@JazzyTJan We traveled to Hawaii for Christmas from the Midwest. Fantastic. No snow..Beaches..warm weather.

@DebMomof3 Used to drive 2 hrs to Detroit & back every year, but it was too much for one day. Nicer to stay home & enjoy!

@angelgenius23 From Chicago to New York for Christmas a few years ago. Well worth it, got to meet family I didn't know.

Share your favorite story of getting lost while traveling.

@maryheston Flew to Grandmas 1 yr. Plane diverted to an airport 200 miles away due to weather. Wild.

@MimiBakerMN Driving to VA two yrs ago we ended up in MI w/ my daughter driving. We were supposed to be in IN.

@CarissaRogers Lost while traveling..drove to Boston From NYC and kept getting lost driving around Boston. WAY before GPS tech!!

@funhippo3 Forgetting where we parked at the airport at midnight.

@angelgenius27 BEST STORY! my mom and i got lost on a train and went to the end of the line. She met her husband!

What family holiday traditions do your kids like? Dislike?

@Chaotic_Barb How creepy is this old school Elf on the Shelf? That was my mothers psycho tradition!

@DipaolaMomma My kids LOVE going to the ICE! event at Gaylord National. They hate the matching PJs I buy.

@DaddyMojo Dude, I love a good cookie swap because their cookies are always better than mine, suckers.

@annawbarber We do a long distance secret Santa with a total of 40 relatives.

@jspd We each get a new pair of Jammie's on Christmas Eve.

How can tech be used to create and celebrate holiday traditions?

@maryheston Facetime on the iPhone - its pretty wild - its like the person is in the room w/ you.

@CarissaRogers We LOVE watching the NORAD Santa Tracker on Christmas EVE, seriously can't imagine it without! :)

@ramblingstump We use Elfster online to draw Secret Santas. One gift to buy is easier.

@birdbanter We <3 personalized video messages Reagan gets every year from Santa via Portable North Pole.

@EverywhereAmy We live away from family, so video kid opening presents and saying their thank you's.

What's your favorite mode of travel? Why?

@MomMostTraveled I like trains because you can relax and still move around!

@erodg I love road trips! I can overpack & bring lots of snacks.

@CarmelLeeMooney A nonstop flight! LOL

What will your kids ask for this holiday season? What will you get them?

@CindyRichards I hope my son asks for his 2nd semester college tuition. Because that's what he's getting.

@Mary Heston I always ask for a pony. Gets a little sadder every year.

@birdbanter My kid asks for everything on TV. We're sticking w/all art/drawing materials, cuz in the end, it's all she does.

@WanderingTastes I'd love to get everyone something handmade by artisans but they keep asking for digital. :-(
