What is Listen to your Mother?
The Listen to Your Mother series started in 2010 with one show. Created by Stay-at-home-humorist Ann Imig, the show premiered on Mother’s Day 2010 at The Barrymore Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin. In 2011, the show spread to five cities Austin, Los Angeles, Madison, NW Indiana, and Spokane. And this year, in 2012? Audiences can enjoy the voices of writers in ten cities: Austin, Chicago, Washington DC, Madison, Northwest Arkansas, Northwest Indiana, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Spokane.
In celebration of Mother's Day, the voices of many will read their stories in their local community, with a percentage of proceeds being given back to local communities. These shows will make audiences laugh, cry, and feel emotions to the very deepest part of their core.
Who should See Listen to Your Mother
For moms, adult and teenage age daughters, husbands, and more, these shows will leave a lasting mark on audiences across the ten cities. Seasoned theater goers will feel at home, like they are watching a Roberto Benigni like production. Whether you are traveling to one of the ten cities for a few days or live their full time, these shows will add an element of local flavor, depth, and heartfelt emotion to your day.
The readings may or may not be suited for young children. Beyond the subject matter, sitting for an hour and a half listening to people read, even with high levels of emotion and intensity, is not the same thing as going to see a DreamWorks or Disney movie.
Where and When Can You See the Show?
The shows are making their rounds of the ten citiesover the next three weeks, situated in and around the Mother's Day season. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting the site of each local show.
