Front-of-the-line passes at Universal and free FASTPASS tickets at Disneyland and California Adventure are super time savers. Also keep in mind that attraction lines are shorter during parades. Eat before or after traditional lunch and dinner times. And if you're staying overnight at one of the Disney resorts, you get early-morning admission to the parks before they open to the general public.

Parent swap on rides if your little one is too small. Everyone has to stand in line together and then one parent goes on the ride with the bigger child. It's hard on the little one who doesn't get to ride, because they will see up close what they don't get to do, so be prepared to deal with that.

We wear matching odd-colored shirts so we are easy to spot. I still put my kids (ages 4 and 8) on leashes when we are in big crowds and we go at odd times of the day when everyone else will be eating or done for the day.

If you plan to do Universal Studios Hollywood in a single day, front-of-the-line passes are a must. In addition to getting you into all the rides quicker, you also get to see behind-the-scenes of several of the attractions. Arrive at park opening with autograph book and pen in hand to meet several of the characters first while everyone else is rushing to the rides.

Explore park maps online and plot out where you want to go before you get there (e.g., head right to Harry Potter if that's where your kids must go; bypass anything on the way to get there and make note of what you want to see later).

My tip is to make sure your family gets a good nights sleep and eats a large breakfast before going to the theme park. At lunch time, when everyone else is eating, take advantage of the shorter ride lines. Buy (or bring) a snack to eat around 2pm, to hold everyone over until dinner time. I have found this saves my family both money and time.

Always always have a snack on hand. Meltdowns (child's OR adults) won't wait while you wait in line.

my best tip is to balance the initial excitement with entering the park and going to some of the shortest wait lines. That will help with some of the longer lines and help manage the anticipation of riding rides.

My best survival tip is when you feel like your scared or going to be sick on a ride close your eyes and hold on tight and it will be over soon.

When you enter the park, go to the rides at the far side of the park, not the ones to the left or right of the entrance. Most people go left or right so the lines are longer.

We always pack a meal for lunch and then eat in the parks for dinner. It saves a little money and still lets you get some fun food from the park.

Since the weather can change make sure to look up the weather for the day before leaving and be prepared to deal with it. We have been at Disney during cold weather and during thunderstorms. Plan your day so you don't have to be outside too long in bad weather.

Bring alot of sunscreen. Also a couple changes of clothes in case you get soaked on a ride.

Great tips! I am so excited for our first big theme park experience. Now I just have to either win the contest or save up some money.
