When you have a medical condition, you may have to face the decision between maintaining your health and travel. For someone like me, who has multiple chronic illnesses and loves travel, it’s a tough call. My heart pulls me to do the things I love – visit new places, experience new customs, try new foods, and feel adventurous. My body, on the other hand, may be giving me signs that I need to rest, eat food I’m used to, be close to my doctors and rest some more.
I know. I'm the least likely person to be writing this post, but there I was, on a hiking trail just over the Idaho border in Wyoming when the concierge where we were staying told us that we might see bears. Excuse me? I'm from Encino. Coyotes I can deal with. Bears? Made me not want to go on the hike.
Last minute travel is adventurous. It adds something special to a trip. But you want to go on a vacation that avoids stress. You won’t have much time to plan and probably need to watch your budget. It can be done and very well too by trying some things out of your comfort zone and by being flexible.
Modern travelers rarely go anywhere without a smartphone. It’s the way we stay connected to the office, see photos of the kids’ soccer match we missed and even board an airplane. But traveling with a smartphone can be a risky proposition.
