Bring Your PJs and Leave the Books at Home

1Smart PJsDo you ever feel like you're bringing the playroom with you by the time you're done packing your child's carry-on luggage?  After I get the iPod, earphones, colouring books, crayons, bedtime story books and snacks packed, the bag weighs more than my child!  Ok, not really, but it's definitely heavier than they'd like to be lugging around, which means either my husband or I am left to carry it in addition to our own luggage more often than not.  I just want to make sure they are entertained and occupied while traveling.

Well, I recently came across a product that solves my packing woes when it comes to bringing reading material for the kids on trips.  Now, you might ask, why not just download books on the iPod or iPad for the kids?  Well, I could, but this is much more fun!  Let me introduce Smart PJ's.  These pajamas seem to be just covered in dots, but if you look carefully, every dot cluster you see is unique in color and configuration, and work much like a QR code you see on many brand packaging and advertising now days.  What do the dots do?  Download the Smart PJ's app on your smart device, and your child will be lead into a wonderful reading or animal discovery journey.

SlateMath: A Free App for Your Little Traveler

slatemath2Let's face it, for some kids (and even adults), math just isn’t their thing. We struggle with it, we dread it in school and yet we know we have to take the classes in order to pass. In my second grade class, the teacher hung a mountain on the wall with little rock climbers, which represented us. The mountain was divided into times tables sections, and as you learned a table, your mountain climber climbed up. Well, mine stayed at the bottom, for a long time, and I remember how much that impacted my willingness to learn math from then on.  Perhaps if I was given supplemental tasks, such as the SlateMath app, instead endless paper and pencil drills, I would have learned a little better.

City Mini Single Stroller - The Great Travel Companion's Ride

Quick Fold Stroller

stroller1As fun as traveling with kids can be, it is also a pretty challenging thing to do. In the end it is all about what my boys need. This can be translated into “what I need to keep my boys happy, so I can enjoy the trip”. This all starts with what my baby calls his “limo”, or better known as a stroller.

At first it took him some time to get adjusted to the idea of it, but now it is a travel essential. The bad part is that his stroller is huge; it is an all terrain baby jogger. So going around a city with it is really hard. It is also a bit hard to fold, it takes around ten minutes, and even folded it takes up a lot of space. Because of this I was desperate for a smaller quick fold stroller.
