Tucked into the mountains just outside of Winter Park, CO is an amazingly peaceful, beautiful getaway you have to see to believe. Adding to its award-wining honors as a top eco-friendly year round ranch resort and spa, Devil’s Thumb Ranch was recently named one of the 2011 Best Hotels of the West and one of the top 25 weekend getaways by editors of Sunset magazine. It only takes one visit to see why!
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to escape for a night with some girlfriends and get away from it all. My only complaint? One night is not nearly long enough to enjoy all the wonderful things to do here. Just about a 90 minute drive from the Denver area though makes Devil’s Thumb Ranch the perfect weekend getaway. Just be sure to book at least 2 nights. Some of the activities my girlfriends and I enjoyed were yoga (unbelievable setting), horseback riding, cooking class, fly fishing, and of course, the spa! All of us left saying that we could have stayed there a week and still wouldn’t want to leave. I plan on bringing my family back as soon as possible.
More on my trip in the next few days but for now, here are the basics that you need to know to get started planning your getaway vacation.

The main lodge and access to all of the building I saw is completely wheelchair accessible. What is wonderful is that accessibility wasn’t an afterthought here. Ramps blend beautifully and naturally into the environment. According to their media guide, four-bedroom Caroga Cabin is handicap accessible. Blue Sky and Ranch Creek cabins have just one or two small steps. Four additional rooms are ADA outfitted in the new main lodge. The Broad Axe Barn and main lodge have elevator service. Ranch Creek Spa is also ADA compliant. Lessons and instruction for disabled and limited mobility recreation enthusiasts are also available through the Activities Center.
