This was my first time in Florida, and I was arriving late in the afternoon. I just wanted to get to my hotel and unwind. Unfamiliar with the area, I was pleased to have a fairly short drive from the Orlando International Airport to the Hilton Bonnet Creek
– only 20 minutes. Located in the Epcot Resort Area and adjacent to the golf course of the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club
– just one of many included amenities – this luxury hotel is a stunner! All I could think upon arrival was what a tragedy it was to have only one night at this beautiful, Four Diamond AAA Orlando hotel. So much more time would be needed to explore!
Bonnet Creek has made a conscious effort to blend into its’ natural surroundings of waterways, wetlands, mature woodlands and wildlife. From the guest rooms on the backside of the hotel are amazing views of their three-acre, lagoon-style pool with lazy-river and waterslide, as well as the championship golf course with waterways winding through the landscape beyond. Epcot is also well within view.
I had to get down to that pool area and explore before the sunset. I dropped my bags in my room, tore open the curtains and took in the view for a few minutes before finding my way out into the warm, fresh, still air just before the sun dipped behind the natural wetlands in the distance. Wishing I hadn’t already grabbed dinner at a little Cuban fast-food restaurant on the way in, I perused the menu of fresh salads, grilled entrees and tropical drinks at the casual poolside Beech café. Bonnet Creek boast 12 restaurants and bars on property, including La Luce
, by acclaimed chef Donna Scala, named best hotel restaurant!
Posted at the entrance of the pool area was a list of poolside activities for every day of the week to keep the whole family entertained. I imagined what a blast it would be to spend the day here with my family. Even with Bonnet Creek’s complimentary shuttle service
to near-by Disney Parks, Universal Studios, Sea World and other local attractions
, we would have to make a day at the pool a priority.
As the sun started to set, I lingered until it dipped behind the wetlands before heading back up to my room. With secured wireless high-speed Internet access and a plush king size bed to kick back on with my MacBook Pro, I had some work to do before even more fun the next day. On tap: a spa day
and evening cocktail party with the TMOM’s before our three-day Disney Cruise! Chris is a designer, WAHM and pilot’s wife living in Colorado.
