LionzEach year the holidays roar into Chicago when the beloved lions who stand guard at the Art Institute of Chicago receive their annual wreathing. It’s a popular tradition that signals the start of the holiday season.

Christmas story leg lampBefore telling you what I thought of "A Christmas Story: The Musical," I must first be completely transparent and admit that the annual viewing of the 1983 movie classic is almost as revered--and nonnegotiable--a family tradition as opening presents on Christmas morning, not Christmas Eve.

And … I own a leg lamp.

goodnight
Putting on good theatre for kids isn't child's play. It requires talented actors, a clever script and imaginative set design that can keep restless minds entertained, instead of squirming in their seats.  Chicago Children's Theatre does this and much more.

Great Wolf Lodge: Howlin' Good Time in Wisconsin Dells

great wolfThere’s a chill in the air here in Chicago.  For me, that means it means it’s time to start planning ways to help our family survive another winter, without the kids all driving each other nuts in the basement family room.

One favorite way for Midwestern families to escape cabin fever is a weekend escape to the Wisconsin Dells, the water park capital of the United States.  There’s a lot to do in the Dells in the summer, but for our family, doin’ the Dells is a winter sport, best done on a bitterly cold weekend, when you’ve run out of ways to entertain the kids indoors. When you just can’t watch another kids movie and you’re bored with board games, the Dells can feel like a tropical paradise.
