atlantis shrunkTake the magic of Disneyworld, excess of Vegas and drop it all on a Caribbean island. What do you have? Atlantis—the mega-resort and aquatic theme park that has forever altered the familiar tourist slogan, “It’s better in the Bahamas.”

Boasting the Caribbean’s biggest water park and casino, this resort is both big in scale and excitement. Don’t worry about securing a beach chair— there are over 8,000 to choose from. If you’re traveling with kids— tots, teens or in-betweens, you’ll discover that Atlantis is a real crowd pleaser.

Atlantis— the Legend Comes to Life

There’s a theme park quality to Atlantis—  and the theme is— you guessed it, the legendary lost underwater city. Everywhere you wander at this massive resort, you’ll discover ancient-looking murals and mosaics. While dark underwater tunnels lead you to caves with amazing aquariums and towering over the resort is the massive Mayan temple that serves as the water park hub.

The Big Dig

You’ll feel you’ve stepped inside an Indiana Jones ride, when you step inside The Dig.

Part aquarium, part faux archaeological excavation, this is where the amusement park aspect really kicks into high gear. The Dig is a recreation of what it might look like if archaeologists uncovered the lost city of Atlantis. Dig history?— the historical recreation of a myth feels a bit confusing, but the marine exhibits are spectacular.

Teens Rule

A highlight for my 13 -year-old son was Crush, the teens-only nightclub and gaming lounge. Here's where my son felt he'd entered paradise.
Walls of monitors where you can play every video game imaginable had me feeling like I’d stepped aboard the starship Enterprise. Atlantis knows today's teens love to talk tech, so a live DJ takes your song requests via ipad. Of course, you can still do it the old fashioned way and just talk to him. But what fun would that be?!

Stir It Up

Younger kids won’t be left out of the fun either. Culinary camp has all the necessary ingredients for keeping little ones entertained. Each day there’s something else on the menu at the kids camp. If they’re hungry for more excitement, they can attend Atlantis Speedway where they can design and build their own remote control racecars. Ready, set, go... Atlantis definitely has perfected the recipe for a fun family vacation.
