Hotel De Glace – Quebec’s Ice Hotel: Not cold enough?
Tour or sleep in a hotel made of ice, fashioned after the original Ice Hotel in Sweden. The building is made of 15,000 tons of snow and ice, offers 88 rooms – most of which have themed sculpted walls. I slept in the treehouse room – the ice walls were sculpted into knotty branches and leaves but my favorite was the beehive room with honeycomb walls and a huge bee overhead.
There is a bar with maple whiskey and hoppin music, ice blocks if you are in the mood for DIY carving, a wedding chapel if you are in the mood for nuptials and a bathroom - but it's in the warm house.
It’s hard not to want to spend a lot of time in the bathroom.

Living in China with kids around
Halloween time presents some challenges. Western holidays are adopted with gusto and random kids and adults can be spotted in Halloween attire, but even in a big city like Beijing, it takes some work to figure out how to celebrate.

Almost every shopping mall in Beijing has an indoor playland, not to mention rides and games. E-Kids Island is a chain of playlands in malls in Beijing. We’ve visited it at the Golden Resources Mall as well as more recently the mall at the Bagou subway stop.

The first thing you should know about St. Kitts is that it is wonderfully unspoiled. They’ve been in the tourism game for less than 10 years (sugar growing and processing was the main industry until very recently), which means that it doesn’t have the feel of some other islands in that region, where you get bombarded with tour offers, people trying to braid your hair, and such.

Most Beijing parks have something of a
mini-amusement park on grounds. The one closest to us where we take the kids when the weather is nice is Zizhuyuan (Purple Bamboo) Park.

Machu Picchu might be Peru’s headliner, but there’s an eco-lodge families can visit in the Amazon jungle named an international Sustainable Standard-Setter for 2012. I was there in 2008 and my memories are sustainable too. Posada Amazonas is the name.
