Audubon-Arts-on-the-Edge-2012resizedFamilies with children of all ages can enjoy the 17th annual Audubon Arts on the Edge, taking place from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 in New Haven, Connecticut. The event will take place in the Audubon Arts & Retail District, on the block of Audubon Street between Whitney Avenue and Orange Street. Activities includes many free family-oriented music and dance performances, interactive arts-and-crafts activities, educational programs, and giveaways.

Among some of the entertainment this year will be Neighborhood Music School’s Afro-Caribbean World Beat and Neighborhood DoSo Band, ACES ECA’s Latin Jazz Ensemble, Vocal Ensemble and Site Specific First Year Dances, Pantochino Children’s Theater, Thelma Ladeira with Ginga Brasileira Dance Company performing Afro-Brazilian dances, and Music Haven’s All Hands on Bow orchestra.

Audubon Street itself will become a canvas, on which event-goers can contribute to an ever-evolving sidewalk chalk mural. A huge painting wall and a pottery wheel will also be set up to encourage artistic expression. In addition, a storytelling area, dress up corner, and face painting station will be featured for children, as well as music making at an instrument petting zoo. The popular community tables at this year’s event will include Chairigami, Elm City Market, and the Yale Peabody Museum.
