Baseball Spring Training in Phoenix, Arizona

cactusleagueMy family loves baseball, and while we do have two Red Sox season tickets, it can be awfully expensive to get a set of four tickets so we can all go together.  Last year, I attended a media familiarization trip to Phoenix to enjoy Cactus League spring training, and this year, we are going as a family. It's going to be a great way to enjoy nice weather, family time together, and some baseball.

Spring training games are reasonably priced, and generally take place during the day. Games are rarely sold out (except for the home team - the Arizona Diamondbacks), and just about every ticket is a great one. Lawn seats are a great deal for families, because they are cheaper and offer lots of space to sprawl out in the sun and enjoy the game.

This year, we are going to visit several different stadiums - Salt River Fields at Talking Stick (where the Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks play), and Tempe Diablo Stadium (where the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim play). But, we are also going to incorporate a few others family-friendly activities into our family vacation - including trips to the Phoenix Zoo, the Desert Botanical Gardens, and the Musical Instrument Museum.

Lodging in Phoenix during spring training can be expensive, but there are some great family options.  We'll be staying at the Westin Kierland Resort and the the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, which are fabulous luxury resorts. However, there are lots of reasonably-priced options available include family favorites like Embassy Suites (in Tempe, convenient to Tempe Diablo Stadium), and Homewood Suites (in Biltmore).

Disclosure: I was a guest of the Greater Phoenix CVB on the media familiarization trip.
