Theme park trips with kids change over time; you move from the kiddie rides to the thrill rides, you can’t wake your teens up to get to the park early – in fact, when my kids were little and knew they were going to a theme park, they used to wake us up, and there might be tears.

Losing a Child at Disney World
Traveling Mom with ToddlersLosing a Child at Disney World

Most of us have a memory of getting lost as a young child. I remember the first time I couldn’t find my parents.  I was probably about six years old and I was playing in the Barbie section at K-Mart. Destination Running and Travel Fitness Finds

disney.princess1.057More and more moms are doing it. Their lacing up their running shoes and slipping away from the kids, their husbands, work and a host of life’s lovely realities and finding that “me time” out on the road. Some do it for their health, some do it for pleasure, some do it to stay in shape and some do it for their sanity. I run for all those things and more.

I’m Lorraine, most commonly know in the blogosphere as Wifey and now Marathon TravelingMom here at TravelingMom.com. I’m the creator of RunWifeyRun.com where I manage marriage, motherhood and all the mayhem; and of course my running, too. Last year I completed my first full marathon, yes 26.2 miles, when I ran in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., and I’m currently training for the Chicago Marathon in October. This was a big feat for me – I’m a former smoker and used to be the laziest person ever. I’ve completed four half marathons (13.1 miles) including Disney's Princess Half Marathon (see the picture above rockin' my tiara) and I love running 5K and 10K races, too. The thrill of race day is contagious and addictive so you’ll find me running in at least one a month. While I enjoy the allure of my hometown, Atlanta, destination running is my true passion – especially when it turns into a girlfriends’ getaway. Fun!

I’m thrilled to join TravelingMom.com and look forward to sharing tips, insights and experiences about destination running – not only marathons but races of different lengths. I’m big into fitness, I just lost 25 pounds, and will surely share some traveling fitness finds, too. I’m always around if you have a question or if there’s something you’d like for me cover just holler at me the comments.

Until next time, I’m off and running …

A couple of the other TMOMs were in the Princess Half Marathon too! Not me, I'm not so much the running type. Walking, though - that's more my speed, lol. I am totally in awe of all moms who run though! :)
