2013 Chevy Malibu LTZ Review: A Swanky Sedan for a Soccer Mom
Traveling Mom with Toddlers2013 Chevy Malibu LTZ Review: A Swanky Sedan for a Soccer Mom

Sure moms across the nation roam suburban streets in minivans and SUVs, picking up their kids from school and chauffeuring them to various activities and events. But I’m a soccer mom too dangit. Just because I drive a 4-door sedan, doesn’t mean I can’t have that title. Stereotype me! I deserve [ ... ]

Must we trade brunch dates and Bloody Mary’s for barely edible pancakes and sippy cups once we have kids? Hardly. Vegetarian travel gets easier in the summer, when farmers markets and their bounteous produce draw tourists and local chefs. Cultural Trip in NYC

IMGP3281My Harry Potter obsessed daughter has The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando on her bucket list. And I definitely plan on taking her.

But we just had the high-brow NYC equivalent, at least in her mind. We saw How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, starring Daniel Radcliffe (and John Larroquette) on Broadway.

This is a great family show. Yes, it is sexist - the women are secretaries (plus one cigarette girl) who pine to get married and join a suburban PTA - and the men are leches, but you can use this opportunity to talk about equal rights and cultural shifts. How to Succeed takes place in a time of typewriters and corded phones, so you might have to explain that, too.

In a bit of prescience, the company in the show is the World Wide Wicket company, “www.”

The Show

How to Succeed won the 1962 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and seven Tony awards, and it’s easy to see why. This is a classic musical with big song and dance productions and the requisite romance (and happy ending).

IMGP3283Daniel Radcliffe does not have the strongest voice, but his dancing is spot on. It might have been a little cruel of the producers to have cast him with a co-star who is over a foot taller, but then, everyone onstage is taller than he.

You also forget that Harry Potter is British; as J. Pierrepont Finch, Radcliffe has a perfect American accent.

My daughter didn’t care. She loved every minute of the show and wanted to stay after to wait by the stage door. We didn’t - it was already after 10:30pm, but we did get a picture of her & her cousin, posing with a photo of her idol.

Next on our agenda - Universal Studios.
