Must we trade brunch dates and Bloody Mary’s for barely edible pancakes and sippy cups once we have kids? Hardly. New York Foodie at Disney

DisneytreatLiving in New York, we have access to some of the greatest restaurants in the world. But sometimes, you just have to get away. A surprise to this jaded New Yorker was how well you can eat on a family vacation - in Orlando. And not just Orlando, but Disney World. I have been the miserable complainer at many a theme park, where the food is fried and so is my brain.

But at Epcot, even a critical vegetarian can eat very well. On the Travelingmoms bloggers retreat, sponsored by Disney, I was reminded about the great food here.

My favorite is the Sunshine Season Food Fair at The Land Pavilion. My trick is to get a FASTPASS for Soarin’, ride the Living with the Land ride, eat lunch, then make it in time for my hang gliding flight on Soarin'.

The Food Fair is a festival for vegetarians, with homemade soups, fresh salads and sandwiches. The restaurant has different stations, then you bring your food to a table. If you go during a particularly crowded time,  have one adult snag a table while the other gets food.

For a sit down spot, the Coral Reef Restaurant, at The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion overlooks a coral reef aquarium with 85 different species of tropical fish. If your kid puts 2 and 2 together, he may snub the grilled mahi mahi, but there are plenty of healthy choices, including a salad with red and gold beets and a mushroom crisp with arugula.

You can also eat your way through the World Showcase international pavilions at Epcot, with a wide range of vegetarian choices. Find vegetable couscous in Morocco, tofu stir fry in China, or my favorite, a vegetable shepherd’s pie with portobella mushroom in the United Kingdom Pavilion.

And after you eat well, you can treat yourself. Mickey on a stick?
