Flagstaff was named for a Ponderosa Pine flagpole made by a scouting party from Boston in celebration of America’s Centennial on July 4, 1876. These two free things to do will help you have an affordable family vacation.

1. Movies on the Square – See free feature films at Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff.  Fridays at 6 p.m. through September.  Check Web site for schedule.

2. Concerts in the Park – This concert series features local musicians.  Six Wednesday nights between June and August – check Web site for locations.  Bring blankets and/or chairs.  5:30 p.m. start.
